So, the fashion lines are more blurred than ever…With the rise and rise of social media and online shopping, fashion is seeing what is arguably its largest upheaval to date. The insatiable desire for “right now” is turning the luxury industry on its head.
Fashion house designers resigning, unable to to cope with the pressures of producing 4 collections a year, have an active social media presence and participate in endless rounds of networking PR events around the Globe.
With fast fashion retailers partnering with ever more capable manufacturing machines in China and elsewhere – which can produce “runway inspired” pieces within a few weeks of the shows, the days of fashion shows as we know are numbered. Showcasing luxury pieces that will be in stores in 6 months time, when its copies are in stores within weeks, is simply an unsustainable business model.
Of course, the luxury market will always exist, but I predict it will be a while for it to finds its feet within the fluid and ever evolving digital world.
With Black Friday and crazy weather patterns adding to the confusion – when are SALES time anymore?
My personal advice is this: take advantage of the situation while you can and invest in pieces that you simply can’t afford not to. And when I think investment, only one thing comes to mind, the ever so chic midnight blue.
