Blogging from inside the fashion scene…

So, as I prepare to wrap up as a fashion retail business model, my focus turns to sharing my fashion insights and on a more general level, indeed style as a whole.

The fashion topics at this time of the year is invariably around the Haute Couture shows just wrapped up in Paris. This time tough, the future of haute couture or if indeed there is one, was more hotly debated than the fairy tale gowns themselves.
Haute couture has never been a world that I inhabit, but that is not to say that I don’t notice the huge influence that “Haute” has on the moods that later arise at the ready to wear collections. And this season, the moods worthy of noting all have one thing in common: boldness.

STRIPES – A personal favourite of mine and truth be said, never too far from its next revival, stripes are back with a vengeance. Surefire labels set to lead their own revivals alongside the trend, will be Missoni and Sonia Rykiel. Bold, colourful and best of all classic. Stripes scream summer like nothing else and if summer is all about fun, then I am betting on these.

EXOTIC SKINS ACCESSORIES – Although I am not personally fond of handbags that are instantly recognisable through logos, IT status or their ubiquity, I have to concede that Chloe is on a roll. Its latest handbag offerings, the Drew in particular, do not seem to be going anywhere out of fashion any time soon and its Drew latest version is just oh, so chic.

As some of you already know, I derive great delight from discovering new talents, and Danish label Naledi Copenhagen, already the “handbag du jour” of Danish royalty, has now launched an utterly covetable collection of everyday handbags for mere mortals like us. All made of sustainably farmed ostrich skins sourced from Africa. Luxury with a conscience, now, that’s chic – if you ask me.

TULLE – Now, this is one of those humbling moments in life…I vividly remember Paris Fashion Week this time last year, and there I was, watching this high fashion girl trot her stuff on the Rue de Rivoli wearing a midi tulle ballerina skirt, ankle boots, sequinned top and a fur bolero and I snidely thought: “fashion victim de luxe”. Fast forward one year and we have stocked and completely sold out of tulle skirts and dresses from the luxe-layers A/W15 Cathrine Hammel collection, I myself, wore the tulle dress on Christmas day, receiving great acclaim from family and the Instagram community alike.
And if the Giambattista Valli Haute Couture show is anything to go by, the mood for drama is most certainly set to continue into spring and with it, tulle set to become the key fabric for an elevated everyday look.

Having just returned from a fabulous trip to my native Brazil, I can most definitely say I am in the mood for spring, and keen to start working on the building blocks of my spring wardrobe…I personally think there are still some great sale buys available right now, which are sure to carry one into spring and beyond. These two pieces, by largely undiscovered talents, are on my lust list:

The tulle dress and the snake skin heels.

And finally, currently on my naff list: any store stocking Isabel Marant wedge sneakers and/or its many copies as “New Arrivals”, come on, these ghastly things have been naff for at least two years now…time to move on.

Love, love, love the ostrich skin clutch!! So chic. Love stripes too. Timeless classic! Even though I must admit that big bold stripes are much harder for me to wear. It’s just a confidence issue which I have to overcome. xkb
